About AOA

Ace of Angels (AOA – 에이오에이) is a South Korean girl group that originated in 2012. South Korean entertainment company FNC Entertainment (an acronym for fish and cake) was established in 2006 by record producer and singer Han Seong-ho. FNC knew they wanted to form a girl group and shortly after coming to this decision, decided to hold auditions as well as scout young women to fill the spots in the group.

After an extensive search, FNC was finally ready to launch the Ace of Angels. Starting July 16th, 2012, FNC spent the next week introducing the first photos of the eight members of the group.

Things seemed to be going smoothly until the debut single album “Angels’ Story” leaked just a few days later on July 28th. Ace of Angels however did not miss a beat, dropping their first music video for the song “Elvis” on July 30th.

Their debut performance was on August 9th at South Korean music program M Countdown, followed by a 2nd performance the following day at another popular South Korean program entitled Music Bank. They immediately enjoyed much success as well as adoration from the fans and announced they would be coming with their next music on October 10th.

The idea was not necessarily a hit from the very beginning. In 2013, it was decided a “sexier” image would be the move from there on out and sure enough, with the release of their single “Confused”, a new Ace of Angels was born.

Ace of Angels continued to promote themselves through performances at different popular South Korean programs and concerts. Due to the success of their original eight woman group, they even created other iterations of AOA called AOA Black, AOA White and AOA Cream. The original AOA members when the group started were Yuna, Chanmi, Seolhyun, Mina, Hyejeong, Choa, Jimin, Youkyung.

AOA Black was the first new version of the group which consisted of Jimin, Yuna, Choa, Youkyung, and Mina. AOA White featured Hyejeong, Seolhyun, and Chanmi. The final sub unit of the group AOA Cream had members Yuna, Hyejeong, and Chanmi.

The group’s debut self titled album was released on October 14th, 2015 under Universal Music Japan. Due to the success of their many singles, it was decided the next best logical step would be to release a full body of work for the fans to enjoy.

Led by their breakthrough single “Miniskirt”, with other standouts such as “Like A Cat” and “Heart Attack”, the group went on their first tour of Japan to promote the album.

Eight of the album’s songs were already released however the project boasted three new original songs entitled “Oh Boy”, “Lemon Slush”, and “Stay With Me”. The album debuted at #1 on the Japanese Billboard chart designated for top album.

After the success of the first album. 2016 was the year for Ace of Angels to truly shine as an established K Pop girl group. It was this year that AOA Cream was born and AOA released their second studio album entitled “Runway”.

AOA Cream debuted on February 12th, 2016 with the song “I’m Jelly Baby” produced by Black Eyed Pilseung. The following month, AOA member Jimin made her solo debut with the single “Call You Bae”. Then on April 12th, AOA’s very own live reality show “OnStyle Live” aired. Member Youkyung left the group in October of 2016, leaving the door open for guest appearances with AOA Black in the future.

On November 30th, 2016 the group’s second album “Runway” was released. It debuted at #4 on Japan’s top album Billboard charts led by the songs “Give Me The Love” and “Good Luck”.

AOA’s third album and first Korean language album “Angel’s Knock” on January 2nd, 2017. They simultaneously promoted the two lead singles “Excuse Me” and “Bing Bing” which had had concepts very unique to each other.

Despite the album performing well for the group, it was their last studio album to date. They have released singles and extended plays however supporters are anxiously awaiting another full body of work.

Choa and Mina ended up leaving the group, rendering Ace of Angels to a five woman lineup. Nowadays, the members stay active with work as a collective and also solo endeavors.

Hyejeong Bio

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Hyejeong is an only child. She has been described as shy her whole entire life, from very early childhood to present day even after she has blossomed into a popular k pop star. At a young age, she competed in a supermodel pageant where she made it all the way to the third round.

An FNC casting director walked away from the pageant so impressed that they made Hyejeong an official FNC trainee in August of 2010. The pageant and her high school cheerleading career helped her gain more and more confidence as time went by.

She eventually got her biggest break July 30th, 2012 where she made her debut as a member of Ace of Angels on South Korean music program M! Countdown. It was there the group debuted their very first single “Elvis” off their debut album “Angels’ Story”.

Besides music, she has stated she enjoys cooking kimchi and doing yoga. Hyejeong describes her fashion style as simple, saying she prefers shorts and/or a hoodie rather than dressy clothing.

According to the other Ace of Angels members, she is the sexiest member of the group and has the best body out of all of the members. In the past she has been quoted saying her ideal male partner would have a great sense of humor and be very kind to her and also fun to be around.

Outside of her work with AOA, she has taken on several different solo ventures.

August 8th, 2012 was her first major solo work as she was featured on television series “A Gentleman’s Dignity” for the first time. She soon after appeared in a music video for Korean Boy Band FT Island entitled “I Wish” from the album “Five Trasure Box”.

She has since appeared in many actings gigs, including although not limited to, Saturday Night Live Korea, “The Blade and Petal”, and also a new Lifetime Series with other AOA members coming in 2019. Fans of both her and AOA are very excited to see what are in her future plans as she looks to stay as relevant a public figure as ever before.

Choa Bio

Born in Incheon, South Korea, Choa has two sisters. One of her sisters is younger while the other sister is older, respectively. For as long as she and her family and friends can remember, Choa was motivated to become a singer. In high school, Choa would practice singing on her own in her free time.

Upon arriving to her college years, she wanted to find a music related major however after being pressured by her father to chase after a more conventional occupation, she attended Inha Technical College and majored in Aviation Business Administration.

She found a job as a salesperson for IPTV where she repeatedly auditioned at SM Entertainment, failing the auditions a shocking 15 times.

However, she never allowed herself to be discouraged and continue to motivate herself to chase after her goals that she had had since she was a child. Eventually, after spending so much time trying to search for and manifest her own opportunities, an opportunity found her.

Choa met South Korean singer and songwriter Juniel. Juniel informed her about upcoming audition with FNC Entertainment for the girl group Ave of Angels and sure enough, Choa earned herself a spot.

On July 30th, 2012, Choa made her debut as a member of Ace of Angels as they performed their debut single “Elvis” off their debut album “Angels’ Story” on popular and successful Korean music show M! Countdown.

She spent many successful years with the group although she sadly had to step away in 2017 due to personal reasons. Her contract with FNC Entertainment then expired in 2019 and FNC chose not to renew it. During her Ace of Angels tenure, she always stayed busy with other projects. Her fans and supporters hope to one day see her return to the spotlight even it cannot be in the group.

She has many notable credits including but not limited to playing the lead role of Gabriella in High School Musical, being featured as a cast member on variety show “My Little Television” and being chosen as a permanent MC on the series “We Got Married”.

At the age of 29, although she does not appear to be actively working on anything, she has plenty of time to return to the stardom she once enjoyed.

Whether it was playing piano in her very early childhood or her short stint as a promotional model in junior high school, all of her experiences growing up in the entertainment realm have seemed to perfectly prepare her for this very moment.

Her first big opportunities seemed to arise after meeting the FNC Entertainment manager at an event by the name of the Smart Uniform Model Contest. Shortly after that she made her debut as a member of Korean girl group Ace of Angels on the Korean music show M! Countdown where they performed their debut single “Elvis” off their debut album “Angels’ Story”.
