About Momoland

Momoland is a K-Pop supergroup currently consisting of nine members: Hyebin, Yeonwoo, Jane, Taeha, Nayun, Daisy, JooE, Ahin, and Nancy with Daisy having been added on in March 2017 and Taeha having been added on the following month.

They were the genesis of MLD Entertainment’s ( formerly known as Duble Kick Company) musical reality show Finding Momoland. The show winners became the seven orignial members, debuting on November 10, 2016 with the EP Welcome To Momoland.

They experienced trouble out of the gate, struggling to amass enough of a following to even ensure an adequate debut. As a result, their label thought it best to refocus their efforts towards branding a positive image via International relief while their promotional staff would be working on the frontlines to drum up enough of a following in the meantime.

The plan came to fruition and they had their coming out party on M Countdown with the funding for their first debut album made entirely possible by crowdfunding.

Imbetween December 2016 and March 2017 Momoland once again was drawing at the straws of relevance, a lone TV feature being their only promotional activity to that point.

In the spring, following the addition of Daisy and Taeha, they made a comeback through The Show, pushing their January 2017 single “Wonderful Love” with an EDM version of the song being broadcast on KBS 2’s Music Bank on June 3 of that year.

The group would return to The Show in July with their own EDM rendition of “Wonderful Love” and they would subsequently release their second EP album Freeze! and follow up with yet another performance on The Show less than a month later.

After a few more months, the group was still failing to maintain momentum until January 2018 and the release of their third EP Great! alongside their mega-hit title track, “Bboom, Bboom”. As no strangers to adversity, the mega-hit would threaten mega-consequences for the band and it’s continued existence  when the artist Serebro claimed that,

“Bboom, Bboom” was a duplicate of his song, “Mi Mi Mi”. The Song’s composer, Shinsadong Tiger, pushed back and argued that, “the bass line is commonly heard in retro house or electro swing genres, as well as the 4 stanza chord.”

No charges were pressed and no serous inquiry was made therein, and the band would finally find its footing. On January 11, they performed and won on MNet’s M!Countdown. 20 days later, they won Show Champion and in early February they triumphantly returned to The Show for a third time, this time procuring a win.

As February progressed, so did the band’s touring and promotional activities. In Japan, the group managed to draw 25,000 spectators at a public function and over 100 media members showed up for a showcase held in Shibuya’s Tower Records.

Momoland would put its stamp on the Japanese continent,  making their debut official with a Japanese version of, “Bboom, Bboom” and inking a deal with King Records on June 13, 2018.

A few days prior, they had released their fourth EP entitled Fun To The World and would earn a platinum certification- the second act ever to do so- by the Gaon music Association for the magnanimous success of, “Bboom, Bboom” which managed over 100 million digital downloads.

The accolades hardly end there, however. The group itself has been nominated for or won nearly 50 different awards. Beginning in 2017 with the Asia Modeal awards win for Best New star singer, they have accumulated wins at The Melon, Genie, and Golden Disk awards as well as three bonsang awards for their record breaking digital downloads.

They also won artist of the year at the Korea Cable TV Awards and Idol of the Year at the Korea Brand Awards with another Artist of the year win at The Fact Music Awards.

Currently, the group is working out an arrangement with the Kapamilya network including a travel TV series where they will tour exotic places in the Philippines.

Hyebin Bio

Also known as, “Cherry” for her luminescent red hair and lips, Hyebin was born in Andong, South Korea along with a younger brother. She used to be a model and an ex-trainee of B2M for three years before joining Duble Kick in 2015, training for one more year prior to Momoland’s debut.

Her and bandmates Yeonwoo and JooE appeared in Kim Youngchul’s Andeon Music video as a side project roughly three months after Momoland’s formation.

Retaning a strong distaste for spicy food and Beondegi, which are seasoned silkworm pupae, Hyebin retains a slim waistline of 22 through her culturally peculiar eating habits, although when she does eat she eats the fatest out of all the group members and is a very good cook.

She also speaks the fastest out of her group members and tends to sleep the most. Enchanted with a childlike disposition, she enjoys playing with Legos and doing impersonations of video game characters and zombies all the while sharing a room with fellow bandmate Nayun.

Yeonwoo Bio

Coming from Seoul as the youngest of two sisters, Yeonwoo speaks with a slow dialect and is bequeathed with a pensive and sedentary personality. She enjoys staring at the ground and lying down surrounded by the company of her own thoughts.

A gifted artist and actress, she frequently draws pictures of her band mates and intakes a high volume of anime and film with her favorite character being Whitebeard from the hit anime One Piece.

Her penchant for acting is also a slight cause for concern, as she is currently forgoing promotional activities for the band in favor of attending to her drama class schedule with an upcoming role planned out in the Korean Drama, “Mung Bean Chronicle” and as an MC of Onstyle’s “Beautiful Life” and “The Show”.

After graduating from the Seoul School of Performing Arts, Yeonwoo trained under MBK and Pledis before her debut on Finding Momoland and her role with the band thereafter. She, along with JooE and Hyebin appeared in Kim Youngchul’s Andenayon music video irrespective of her projects concerning the main group.

While she is a gifted artist, she has awful handwriting according to an interview by Pops In Seoul. As an interesting aside, she enjoys fishing and eating fish, particularly takoyaki, which are fried dough balls stuffed with tempura battered octopi. According to her and seemingly contrary to her mostly insulated and unadventurous lifestyle, her motto is to “live like it’s the last day.”

Jane Bio

Jane was born in Changwon, South Korea and educated at Hanlim Art School. She has auditioned for several different. In terms of apprenticeship, she had experienced the most difficulty.

Before finally settling with MLD, she failed to make the cut at both FNC Entertainment and Source music. There was some progress made when SS entertainment accepted her, but alas that would also fail to pay dividends, as she eventually pared ways with them.

Not only is she part of super-group Momoland, she also lends her talents to a ” ’97 Liner group” that consists of Dami from Dreamcatcher’s Dami, Oh My Girl’s Binnie, GFriend’s Yuju, PRISTIN’s Roha and Yuna as well as Uni. T’s Yebin.

To clarify, a “liner group” consists of band members born within the same year as designated by the number. A cultural and musical element that is ubiquitous yet exclusively reserved for the K-Pop genre.

While her and the group have cultivated a notable international fan base, Jane used to be an ex-fansite admin for the K-Pop rappers Infinite L and Sunggyu under the handle, “Baby’s Breath”.

Jane now prefers to interact with the online realm in a slightly different way, reading webtoons and shopping online as opposed to engaging others.

When not online, she enjoys riding bikes as well as taking pictures and confiding in her diary. One public confession , however, is her affection for her band mates. According to Saipan Land, her “weakness” is kissing the other members.

Sushi and Perilla leaves are her favorite foods, while she is most averse to tomatoes, chocolate, and sesame oil. Her appreciation for food goes beyond that after a Pops in Seoul interview had brought to light that she does a spot-on impression of a rice cooker.

When selecting a wardrobe or wearing jewelry, she adores anything pastel, Rose Gold or black and according to her roommates she is by and large the messiest member of the group; though she still shares a room with fellow members Daisy, Ahin and Taeha.

Getting to know Jane is one thing, but trying to actually understand her is a challenge in itself. She speaks extremely fast in both Korean an Japanese and when you are able to gleam what she says, she is resolute at following through with her convictions and actions, living by  a simple yet powerful motto in the words, “Do as You Say!”.

Taeha Bio

Taeha was born in Jeonju, South Korea and is one of a handful of K-Pop stars with a unique musical lineage, her cousin Junsu is apart of the group JYJ. Before making Momoland her first priority,

Taeha was very close to being a part of the group Cosmic Girls instead but finally relented and committed to Momoland in April 2017. Although not a member, she continues to maintain a close relationship with all  the members of Cosmic Girls.

Well seasoned in spite of her apparent youth, she trained for over 5 years prior to Momoland, adding to her resume with appearances in both Produce 101 and Superstar K in 2009 at the tender age of  11 years old.

Unfortunately, she is currently unable to engage in promotional activities with the band due to health reasons but hopes to return to work soon.

Specalizing in Trot singing and known for her sensual style of dancing, she has a soft side and is susceptible to crying while conversely being known for her firm hand and hard slap. Taeha is not a picky eater and loves trying new foods with no particular inclination towards taste and texture.

Nayun Bio

An only child from Seoul, South Koren Nayun( Or Michelle) had no younger siblings to mentor, but that hasn’t kept her from assuming the role of “middle mother” within the group. As is the case with most doting mothers,

she engages in concerned and prolonged conversation, particularly with her band mate/ roommate Hyebin into deep hours of the night and phone conversations, regardless of person or nature consistently last for 2-3 hours at a time. Naturally, she is a good listener and never feels obliged to bend an ear and console those in need.

Educated at the Seoul School of Performing Arts, she is taken to painting, drawing and acting . Her role model is Suzy, who also happened to have been born in the same town and attended the same school before venturing into K-Pop and subsequently soloing as well as acting.

Her strength and energy are belied, however, by physical vulnerability. Nayun was diagnosed with BPPV or Beningn paroxsymal positional vertigo. While the common symptoms of vertigo are present, the addition of nausea into the equation distinguishes it from other forms.

Resulting from this diagnosis, Nayun announced on July 1, 2018 that she will enter a brief hiatus in order to focus on her health. In spite of her chronic ailment, she is propelled forward by her motto, “Let’s Do Our Best”, perhaps a reason that this condition has not made her consider quitting the group altogether.

Nayun is no-nonsense , she dislikes aegyo and is open to any and all food. When it comes to personal relaitonships, she prefers a degree of push and pull to keep her as well as the other person grounded.

Her relationship with the band continues to be enigmatic, as she shares a room with Taeha, Ahin, and Jane yet currently refuses to participate in the band for promotional reasons.

She is the eldest of two sisters and has a strong cross cultural influence, being a fluent English speaker after having lived in Canada for 11 years and claims Christmas as her favorite holiday.

Daisy enjoys pastry and bread in particular as opposed to other grains and starches more commonly consumed within eastern culture. In terms of dance, she is adept at ballet, whereas her contemporaries specialize in eastern dancing styles if they do take an interest to choreography outside of their conventioanal entertainment contract.

For fun, Daisy regularly shops and watches movies and is pursuing a tryst with Song of iKon. There is also an upcoming engagement for her as the new host of Pops in Seoul with fellow bandmate Nancy.

JooE Bio

Coming from Bucheon, South Korea and having an older brother, JooE has taken that tension and harnessed it into a thriving career outside of the band dynamic.

With a specialyt in mimicking and copying, more than likely spurned on by her brother and typical sibling rivalry, JooE has used this gift combined with her education at HanLim Art School to procure a number of acting and hosting jobs.

She is the face of the Tropicana company after shooting a commerical for them. On TV, she was appointed MC for the variety show, “School Attack 2018” with another credit as MC of “Get It beauty 2018” plus she is one of the MC’s of JTCB 2’s “Fallen For You” along with Jung Hyung Don and Jung Se Woon.

There are a couple other CF’s peppered inbetween, one being for Kakao’s friends marble and another one being for Yungshin Glonsan Vermont TV. She was also a guest on, “Salty Tour” and became a fixed cast member of “Kim Saeng Min’s Veteran”.

Ahin Bio

While she was born in Wonju, South Korea as the youngest of two sisters, Ahin’s  past links to her to China in a much more tangible way. She lived in China for 11 years from the age of 6 and attended Shanghai United International School and went on to study abroad in Shanghai for three years before eventually trekking back home for a brief period to graduate from Seoul’s School of Performing Arts.

Her education and affiliation with the country have contributed to her fleuncy in Chinese, English, and Spanish.

Living in China has definitely impressed upon her spiritual and personal dispositions. In one of the largest growing mission posts for Christianity, she took heed and professes the cross herself and as the largest demographic in the world for basketball, it has become her favorite sport. She even goes by the Chinese nickname Wo An Ni on occasion.

Irrespective of Chinese influence, she emulates athletics in general, posting a a 100 m time of 14 seconds and relishing in the sport of running in general. Her singing voice is considered her most charming asset, and with a golden throat comes an iron gut as she is well-renowned for her rapid eating abilities.

Meat and desserts are the most pleasing to her palate, while celery and carrots are the least preferred. Indian Pink is her favorite color and when not cooking for herself or eating at a prolific rate, she is occupied with her puppy.

Ethereal and spiritually inclined, she stresses the importance of balance in the motto, “Stars can’t shine without darkness.”

Nancy Bio

Born in Daegu, South Korea to an American father and Korean Mother, Nancy comes from a unique ethnic background in relation to her contemporaries.

She is the youngest of two, and her sister is also musically involved, albeit as a cellist. From her formative years, she has always been an actress and model; and with TC Candler ranking her #18 on, “The 100 most beautiful faces of 2018”, the outside world seems to have confirmed the validity of her predilections.

Prior to her engagement with Momoland, Nancy formed a hip-hop dance group called Cutie Pies whom went on to audition on Korea’s Got Talent. From that point,

she went into six years of training with NEGA network and was inducted into Momoland’s final lineup on November 10, 2016. Seventeen days later, she was conversely introduced into Sunny Girls final lineup.

There are a few solo projects to her credit, she made an appearance in SNUPER’s “Stand By Me” MV and in MC GREE’s Music Video “Dangerous” and as an actress she was cast in the web series Tooniverse Nangnam School Season 2 with an additional role in the web music drama Thumb Light. On daytime TV she had a hosting stint on the musical variety show Pops In Seoul from March 27, 2017 until June 1, 2018.

Nancy’s personal preferences include, but are not limited to, watching movies and singing Disney OST’s, eating cheesy food(an aside to her western heritage- most easterners are lactose intolerant) and anything with mint chocolate.

She is fluent in English, but prefers the language of her fellow countrymen and her current favorite color is blue, whereas it used to be burgundy. She is buoyed by a motto of humility and appreciation warning to “Not lose the opportunities that you receive”.
