About Super Junior

Super Junior is a South Korean Kpop boy band with ten members that debuted in November 2005. They are one of the longest-running and successful groups of the genre.

From the years 2000 to 2005, members were recruited from different industries including acting, dancing, singing competitions, and open casting calls. After intense training and a few name changes, the group debuted in 2005 with their first album Twins, which included the singles “Twins,” and “You Are the One.” There were three additional tracks on the album that were released online.

During the years that followed, Super Junior continued to tour and release music, but they also developed subgroups with the members targeting different types of music and audiences. Each member of the group also pursued individual interests in acting, hosting, presenting, and modeling. Other entertainment agencies noticed their success and began training members in different aspects of the entertainment industries. The group originally started with 13 members. The three previous members who left the group were Hengeng, Kibum, and Kangin.

Super Junior won many awards over the years. The most prominent being Best Selling Kpop Artist four years in a row.  In 2008, they won the Favorite Artist in Korea award. Other awards include 13 music awards, International Artist, and Best Fandom in the teen choice awards. Their Fandom name is E.L.F., which stands for Ever Lasting Friends.

In 2006, the group released their new single, “U” by offering it as a free download and on their official website. The song crashed the computer server after one million downloads of “U.”

Super Junior had their first Asia-wide concert tour in 2008, titled “Super Show.” They released the Japanese version of their single “U,” which broke a record for the first Korean single to have made it into the top 10 on Japan’s weekly music chart.

The release of their third studio album, “Sorry, Sorry” in 2009, was their first album to debut at number one on the music charts. It is considered to be their career breakthrough album. It went on to become South Korea’s best-selling album of that year. It was also a best-selling album in Taiwan, China, Thailand, and the Philippines. There were some changes to the line-up with members coming and going due to contract disputes and solo careers.

With the release of their fourth studio album titled Bonamana in 2010, it topped Taiwan’s Korean-Japanese music charts for 61 weeks. In 2010 to 2011, the group toured and promoted the album throughout Asia, selling out venues at each stop. They also toured in the U.S., Tokyo, and Paris.

They released a 3D movie version of the tour which went on to become the best-selling 3D movie in Korea. During this time period, they received many awards and became popular well beyond Asia while topping the charts in other countries.

In 2011, the release of the album Mr. Simple, debuted at number one and went on to peak at number three on the Billboard World Albums chart. In 2012, the group won more awards and released more singles from the album.

Also in 2012, the group released their next album titled Sexy, Free & Single. There were several chart-topping singles and awards for that album. They also released the 3D movie version of the album.

The group released their seventh album Mamacita, in 2014. They toured and released several singles from the album during that year. Various members did their mandatory enlistment in the military during this time frame.

In 2015, another album, Devil, was released. There were several singles and awards for that album, along with more tours to promote it. The group was on hiatus for most of 2016 due to the enlistment of four members.

On September 27, 2017, Super Junior’s official website had a count down to their 12th anniversary on November 6th, when they released their eighth album, Play. The album had 10 tracks on it. The group also had a reality show “SJ Returns,” which featured the development of Play. There were several singles and videos released from the album. It won several awards and was recorded in Korean, Spanish, and English.

In 2018, Super Junior released a special single titled “One More Time,” featuring the Mexican band Reik. It debuted on the Latin charts at number 18.

In 2019, all the Super Junior members have fulfilled their mandatory military service and have announced their comeback. They will be releasing more music later in the year.

Leeteuk is a singer, rapper, and radio personality born in Seoul, South Korea. He comes from a family of four. Leeteuk was discovered by SM Entertainment when he was 16 years old. He trained for five years and debuted with the group Super Junior in November 2005. Leeteuk has also been a part of Super Junior’s sub-unit groups Super Junior-T, and Super Junior-H.

The group has been successful and releasing music for over 10 years. Because Leeteuk is the oldest member, he is considered the leader of the group. Along with bandmate Eunhyuk, Leeteuk has been a DJ for the radio show “Super Junior’s Kiss the Radio” since 2006.

In 2009, Leeteuk was a regular on the talk show “Strong Heart.” He was also a frequent guest on “Star King,” a Korean television series. In 2010, he was on the longest-running Korean television series “Enjoy Today.”

In 2011, Leeteuk took over as permanent MC for the show “Star King.” During the rest of 2011 to 2012, he appeared on several game shows.

On October 30, 2012, Leeteuk began his mandatory military service. He was discharged on July 29, 2014. While serving in the military, he was a part of the military musical “The Promise.” It centered around a group of soldiers who made promises to each other during the Korean war.

He returned to Super Junior after his service in 2014, for a performance on “Music Bank,” a South Korean music program. Super Junior was on hiatus for much of 2016, due to the enlistment of four members. During that time, Leeteuk returned to hosting television shows and he collaborated with other singers for the single “My Hero.”

Heechul Bio

Heechul is a singer and rapper born in Hoengseong, South Korea. He is a member of the music group Super Junior. He has also participated in other projects including Super Junior-T, a subgroup of Super Junior. He was involved with two other projects including Universe Cowards with Min Kyung-hoom and the duo Kim Heechul & Kim Jungmo.

In 2003, Heechul moved to Seoul to audition for singing parts in different competitions. He sang the Korean national anthem at a competition and passed the audition. He then signed a contract with SM Entertainment and became an official trainee for singing, dancing, and acting.

In 2004, Heechul graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree in English tourism. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in 2009, for engineering.

Before his debut with Super Junior in 2005, Heechul appeared in the teen drama “Sharp 2,” and hosted the music show “Show! Music Tank.” He then joined Super Junior in late 2005, for their official debut and the first album Twins.

In 2006, Heechul was seriously injured in a car accident. He fractured his left leg and was unable to perform the strenuous dances involved in the Super Junior shows. He then contributed as a singer to the group.

Over the next few years, Heechul appeared in several television series and movies. He also worked as a radio DJ and did voice-overs during that time.

On February 23, 2007, Heechul debuted as part of the Super Junior sub-unit, Super Unit-T. Their single “Rokuko,” was the best selling single in 2007. This marked his comeback after recovering from the car accident in 2006.

In 2007, Heechul won the Best Pretty Boy award at Mnet 20’s Choice Awards. He followed that up with performances in television series and also worked as a DJ again.

Heechul released the single “First Star” in 2009, as part of the soundtrack for the dramatic television drama “Loving You a Thousand Times.” He has written lyrics for Super Junior songs and also for other artists.

In 2010, Heechul joined the cast of “Radio Star,” a South Korean talk show. His popularity grew and he won Best Newcomer Award for that year.

In 2011, Heechul enlisted for his mandatory military service. He was discharged on August 30, 2013. While serving, he was involved in singing performances and also worked as a DJ for a radio program.

After his service, he appeared in several television series and on entertainment programs. In 2016, Super Junior went on hiatus because four of the members were enlisted at the time. During that time he also released a duet titled “Sweet Dream” with singer Min Kyung-hoon. The single won the Best Rock Song award at the Melon Music Awards.

In 2017, he released a duet with singer Wheein entitled “Narcissus.” He also appeared in the Chinese dating variety show called “Perhaps Love.” In 2018, there were several more appearances in television series and hosting programs.

Heechul debuted his solo digital single “Old Movie,” in 2019. It topped the charts in seven different countries. He also starred in the film “Hello, My Cat.”
