About Twice
Twice is a nine member girl group that debuted on Octobr 20, 2015 throughout the JYP entertainment label. The group’s genesis was arranged via Mnet’s musical survival show Sixteen.
The initial seven finalists from that pool of contestants were Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun and Chaeyoung. Therein JYP had decided to increase the size of the group, adding Tzuyu as she was the, “Audience’s pick” and Momo based on her past credentials and affiliation with the label.
The group got off to a fast start, with their first EP The Story Begins reaching 50 million hits on YouTube within the first five months of their debut. On April 25, 2016 they released Page Two and the subsequent title track “Cheer Up” would earn them their first music show win on M!Countdown exactly a year after the group’s formation on Sixteen.
By August, Page Two managed to break 150,000 copies by year’s end while no other girl groups album sales had even reached 100,000 within the same amount of time.
To commemorate their first anniversary, twice released the single”One In A Million” along with the EP Twicecoaster: Lane 1 in addition to their new song, “TT”. The accompanying music video brought in over 200 million views, nonetheless making Twice the very first girl group to achieve that feet.
With one precedent having been established, the momentum continued to build; Twice netted Song of the Year for their single “Cheer Up” at the Melon and Mnet music Awards respectively.
Now the time was nigh and the group had set it sights on other ports of call. JYPE announced their first concert tour 16 months after their debut. The release of EP #Twice would signal their Japanese debut with their first leg fo the three day tour ushering in 150,000 fans at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
#Twice would earn them platinum certification by The Recording Industry Association of Japan and earn the honor of the fastest selling single ever for a South Korean girl group in Japan. TT would follow behind, earning gold status.
Upon the conclusion of their first tour, Twice regrouped with the album Twicetagram on October 30. The music video lead single “Likey” was filmed in Canada in collaboration with producer Black Eyed Pilsung and Jeon Gun.
Their production expertise, in conjunction with the song itself, rocketed “Likey” to the top of Billboard’s World Albums and World Digital songs sales. Setting yet another historic precedent as Twice was the first girl group to stand proudly atop both charts at the same time.
They would circle back to Japan for an extended stay, kicking off their Twice Showcase Live Tour 2018 “Candy Pop” tour in Aichi prefecture on January 19.
During their tour they also achieved platinum for their EP What Is Love? by the Korean Music Content Association, making them the first female artist to do so and earning the Coveted double platinum by the RIAJ, which was also the first of its kind by a foreign female artist.
Continuing to add to an already illustrious resume, Twice’s extended reissue of their Summer Nights EP in July, re titled What Is Love? and it’s title track would peak at 2.5 million downloads and 100 million streams on the Gaon Digital Music Charts, once again making assigning them to the masterclass as the only girl group to certify platinum in both streaming and downloads by the KMCA.
That September, they release the Japanese Studio Album BDZ and from that point they embarked into China with the Twice First Arena Tour BDZ on September 29 and their first dome tour of Japan the following April, amassing 220,000 people and spanning from Osaka to Nagoya.
In between tours, they released their sixth EP Yes or Yes once again breaking down barriers with a record setting 42.1 million views within 24 hours of it release. Their Seventh EP Fancy You made them Korea’s most lucrative and successful girl group of all time, surpassing a mark set twenty years ago by S.E.S.
Almost a year later, a group with nothing left to prove is on the verge of a comeback. Their eighth and most recent EP Feel Special and its namesake title track have once again made their ascent to the top of Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales and “Feel Special” made waves in North America, coming in at 82 on the Canadian Hot 100 Chart.
Having surpassed their peers in many respects, Twice’s status has been well chronicled in a number of publications and polls including but not limited to The Gallup Korea Poll( ranking 2nd amongst the top ten artists), Forbes Korea Power Celebrity, Billboard’s 21 under 21 and as well as Variety‘s Youth impact report.
Their song, “Cheer Up” was used, with modified lyrics, as a jingle for candidates Moon Jae-In and Yoo Seung-Min during the 2017 South Korean Presidential election. JYP stock has increased over 700% since the band’s debut, going from ₩4,500 in 2015 per share to ₩ 31,400 per share in 2018.

Jihyo Bio
Jihyo is the eldest of her three sisters, Seoyeon and Jiyoung and hails from the Gyeonngi-do province of Guri, South Korea. Being born under the name Park Ji Soo, it wasn’t until right before her fateful appearance on sixteen and her introduction to Twice that she decided to have it legally remanded to Park Ji Hyo.
Preparing for half her life in anticipation for a career breakthrough, Jihyo has over ten years of training, by far the most of any group member; becoming a trainee in the 3rd grade for JYP after placing second in their Junior Naver competition.
Due in part to her experience and to her proximity to her band mates( She shares the largest room with Nayeon, Sana, and Mina) she was voted the unanimous leader of the band by her mates, yet not by JYP himself.
As a leader, though, she must delegate from afar as she is currently exempted from group promotions due to a neck injury. At least her hands are fully functioning. According to Twice Showtime, she is ambidextrous. She also has a lone solo credit, making an appearance in Miss A’s “Only You” Music Video.
Jihyo lives pretty inconspicuously behind the scenes. She reads webtoons and surfs the web for fun. Her favorite color is red and she’s allergic to pineapples and highly averse to raw foods. 21 is her favorite number, sensibly enough because she was born on February 1st.

Nayeon Bio
Nayeon was born in Seoul, South Korea and has a younger sister named Im Seo-Yeon. Before her window of opportunity would open with the band, she had to sneak out the backdoor first.
When she was a kid, she entered a child model contest and got cast by JYP but her Mom didn’t give consent. Several years later, in 2010, she secretly entered a JYP audition and passed.
Twice was not her first crack at fame, she had been chosen beforehand for JYP’s group 6mix but they never made it off the ground. As a member of twice, she was the first to be announced and confirmed.
Putting her career in perspective, Nayeon might not have made it as a dancer. She suffered a left leg injury as a result of a car accident in early childhood. But through hard work and self-belief, this injury along with her family’s disapproval of her career choice, have only helped to strengthen her resolve and self-belief.
There is also a strong tether that she has with members of groups other than her own. She was apart of San E’s “Please Don’t Go” MV, GOT 7’s “Girls, Girls, Girls” music video, Jun K’s “No Love”( Japanese) and “Your Wedding” and Miss A’s “Only You” MV. When not in collaboration, she keeps close personal ties with BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and Jennie.
Additionally, Nayeon has some hosting experience as MC of Idol Star Athletic Championship 2018 Chunseok Special and has been singled out by the publication TC Candler as 82nd in “The 100 Most Beautiful Faces of 2018.”

Born in Suwon, South Korea as the youngest of two, her eldest being actress Gong Seungyeong and Seo Yeon, Jeongyeon has had to fight to assert her relevance not only with respect to her siblings, but within her group and in regards to her career.
She failed her first audition as a youth for JYP. Not being disouraged, she tried again in 2010 and became a trainee; being accepted into both JYP and SM entertainment the same day but ultimately sticking with JYP. When it came time to decide a leader for the band, Jeongyeon was picked second to Nayeon,
once again falling just short. Even as as an award winning entertainer for her work in Inkigayo, Nayeon would once again compromise the award, sharing it with her sister at the 10th annual SBS Entertainmejt Awards.
In third grade, she legally changed had her named changed because her classmates teased her that it sounded like a boy’s. One facet of her life that has never changed, however, is her natural beauty.
She was racked 66th on TC Candler’s 100 Most Beautiful Faces of 2018. And her spirit has contributed to her renown, being voted among the 20 most popular idols in South Korea for three consecutive years as per the South Korean Gallup Poll, along with band mates Nayeon and Tzuyu.
Jeongyeon loves starchy food, consuming ddeokbokki- basically hot and spicy rice cakes- and Golbangee muchim, which are spicy noodles with whelks. Her distant third preference is meat.
The color that represents her best, she claims, is yellow-green. A mixed shade that nods to the compromises she has been forced to make over a lifetime. Her favorite number is zero because she claims she doesn’t have a favorite number.

Coming from the Kyōtanabe province of Kyoto, Japan; Momo- which means peach in Japanese- is the youngest of two sisters, the oldest is named Hana.
In the Beginning, both her and her sister were on the same trajectory with the same goals. They had both taken up dancing at three years old and seemed well on their way when JYP scouted both of them after they caught eye of them in a dance video.
From there, the company invited them both to audition, with only Momo making the cut. Momo went on Sixteen to become apart of what would be known as Twice, only to be eliminated in the sixth episode. The opportunity for redemption would swiftly follow,
as JYP went against the show’s format and decided to add her on anyway due to her essential abilities as a dancer. Especially the fact that Momo’s inclination in urban and Hip-hop dance as opposed to more traditional dance styles would cater more to the tastes of a global fan base.
Delving into other forms of media, Momo is an accredited songwriter, though not a solo one. Within the group, she helped pen, “Shot Thru The Heart” from the EP Summer Nights with Sana and Mina as well as “21:29” from the album Feel Special along with the other group members. Apart from the group, she helped write,
“Hot” from the EP Fancy You with Kang Eun-jeong and “Love Foolish” from the EP Feel Special with Shim Eunji. In television, she was a contestant on Mnet’s Sixteen and Hit the Stage and an MC on Mnet’s Suwon K-Pop Super Concert alongside Chaeyoung, Zhou Mi, and Kim Hee-Chul.
Momo has also graced the set of several music videos. Wooyoung’s “Rose”(Japanese), Heechul’s and Min Kyung-Hoon’s, “Sweet Dream” and miss A’s “Only You”.
Food is at the center of Momo’s personal life. An adventurous eater and a skilled cook, she particularly likes jokbal, which are pig’s feet cooked in spices, and romantically seeks a mate with the same culinary interest and enthusiasm for eating( within reason though,
she doesn’t go for overweight- that’s too enthusiastic). She likes dolls and soft, plush toys and her favorite number is 64 because it is the one her father wore when he played soccer.

Distinguishing herself as an only child, Sana was born in the Tennōji-ku province of Osaka, Japan. The pursuit of stardom for her would occur by total happenstance,
as she was cast for JYP while shopping with her friends, passing her audition on April 13, 2012. Following three nearly three years of training, she participated in Sixteen and was one of the original seven in Twice’s initial lineup.
Excluding her debut on Sixteen, Sana has lent herself as MC on several other TV programs, beginning with MBC’s Idol Star Athletics Championship in 2016 and 2019 and a credit in between on KBS’s Song Festival in 2017.
She has contributed as a song writer in 2018’s “Shot Through the Heart” along with Band mates Momo and Mina, 2019’s “Turn it Up” with Earattack from the EP Fancy You and with the rest of band mates in 2019’s “21:29” from the EP Feel Special.
Described as an optimist, Sana’s glass half full philosophy and well-wishing were at the crux of some brief controversy when she welcomed the arrival of the Reiwa dynasty in Japan. Her Tweet states: “As a person born in the era, I feel somewhat sad that the Heisei Era is ending, but I want to say ‘otsukare-sama’ (Good work) to the era!!!”
While the initial sentiment was not ill-intended, the technicality of acknowledging the era as opposed to the emperor who reigned over the era caused some offense to her fellow countrymen, who claimed that this minor oversight was an allusion to the colonial period in which imperial Japan ruled over Korea. Fans came to her defense, claiming that she was simply commenting on current events and making no reference to the past.
Sana, as one gifted with the fine motor skills for calligraphy, would never have worked out as anything but a vocalist due to the clumsiness of her outer extremities.
Exclusive of her jagged and in-congruent body control, she has a natural beauty as she was ranked 46th out of “The 100 most beautiful faces of 2018” by TC Candler. For fun and personal satisfaction, she collects perfumes and body mists so as to complement her signature profile with a signature scent.

Born in the heart of Texas, Mina has an older brother and relocated to Kobe, Japan when she was only a toddler. For 11 years she took ballet lessons and an interest in KPop would develop when her and a friend performed a Girl’s Generation song cover.
In the exact same scenario as her band mate Sana, she was cast for an audition while she was shopping and made the cut on January 2, 2014. The least tenured of the group, she trained for less than a year before becoming a member.
Publicly reserved and pensive in private, Mina is the only member of the band unable to perform aegyo, the equivalent of public flirtation. Mina’s favorite phrase in Japanese is “The opposite of love is not hate, but indifference”.
A victim of anxiety, often a disorder of deep thinkers, it further hinders Mina’s interaction with the public and with the promotional activities of the band. Though she has managed to step out of shell to a degree, assisting in Junho’s music video”Feel”(Japanese) plus GOT7’s “Stop Stop It”, Wooyoung’s “Rose”(also Japanese) and miss A’s “Only You” videos.
Though not an active food enthusiast like her band mates, she peruses restaurants online and occasionally steps out in public to go shopping. Her favorite number is 37 because its pronunciation “Mi” (3) and “Na” (7) match that her of her name.

Native to the Gyeonggi-Do province of Seognam, South Korea, Dahyun has an older brother, Myung Soo. There was already some buzz going around before she ever stepped foot in the audition room thanks to a dance video performance of hers that manged to go viral throughout South Korea.
By the time she was in Middle School, some JYP representatives were aware of her potential and scouted as she was performing a solo at a youth dance festival. They auditioned her and she became an official trainee on July 7, 2012.
As a matter of fact, she was courted by three different agencies; the other two being SM and YG Entertainment, with JYP the winner in not only the short, but the long term, as the band’s combined talents would launch them into an unprecedented stratosphere of wealth, power and recognition in the years to come.
Insofar as songwriting, Dahyun split the credit for 2017’s “Missing You” from the album Twicetagram along with Earattack and Chaeyoung. She co-wrote “Trick It” with JQ and “21:29” with the members, both songs coming from the EP Feel Special.
In television, irrespective of her obvious debut on the show Sixteen, she was a fixed panelist on MBC Every 1’s Weekly Idol in 2016, A cast member on Real Man and a panelist on Weekly Idol within the same year plus an announcer on Idol Star Athletic Championships in 2019.
Dayhun is a faithful Christian, and when not relishing in the communion of Christ she enjoys a nice, cold glass of milk, particularly chocolate. She is scared of animals and apparently of the sun too, as her band mates coined the nickname “Tofu” to describe her snow-white complexion.
In the dorm, she shares a room with Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu with her and Chaeyoung being designated the official dishwashers. Dayhun’s favorite number is 7 for its symbolic resonance. She became a twice member on July 7th and she is the 7th oldest of the group.

Chaeyoung Bio
Chaeyoung was born in Seoul, South Korea and has a younger brother name Jeong Hun, who is an aspiring model. She auditioned for JYP and aced it on June 6, 2012 and then trained for a couple years prior to her debut.
As a writer and composer, she takes full credit for engineering the lyrics to 2016’s “Precious Love” off of the EP Page Two and “Eyes, eyes, eyes” from Signal. In 2017, she wrote “Missing You” and “Don’t Give Up” from the album Twicetagram.
Not to mention 2018’s “Sweet Talker”, “Young and Wild”, “Strawberry”, and 2019’s “21:29” from the albums What Is Love, Yes or Yes, Fancy You, and Feel Special, respectively. Moreover, she wrote and composed “How You Doin’” which was apart of the album &Twice.
Not only an accredited writer, Chaeyoung is a designer in her spare time. She has designed covers for Twice’s Page Two, Shoes for the SPRIS company and posters for Twice’s Melody Project V Live Channel, in particular for the likeness of her bandmate Sana.
Chaeyoung is a picky eater in the best possible way, steering away from meats and sweets while subsisting on a diet of vegetables, as long as their not beans. At her leisure, her and Tzuyu recite the classic choral consonant warm-up PPAP(Pineapple-Pineapple-Apple-Pen) and her impression of wild ducks and window wipers is rumored to be second to none.

Tzuyu Bio
Tzuyu comes from Taiwan and is the younger of two siblings, withe the other being a brother. The path she took was fairly deliberate. As opposed to a chance encounter at a shopping mall or scouts in espionage at a middle school talent show,
Tzuyu was approached by JYP in 2012 at the MUSE performing arts workshop and traveled to South Korea on November 15 of that year to commence her training. After a little over two years of training, she appeared on Sixteen and was the very last member inducted into the group as the “Audience Pick”.
An interesting factor that nearly overshadows her individual achievements is the flag controversy of 2015. Twice made an appearance on the Korean Variety Show My Little Television waving a Taiwanese flag to represent her national origin, A Korean flag to represent her current residence, and a Japanese flag to represent nationalities of Momo, Sana, and Mina.
Thereafter an eastern equivalent of the Red Scare ensued, with Taiwanese-born and Chinese based singer Huang An waving his flag of flaming falsehoods,
claiming that Tzuyu was an independence activist on behalf of Taiwan resulting in an angry backlash from mainland Chinese citizens and the group being barred altogether from Chinese television; As well as the termination of their endorsement deal with Chinese based company Huawei.
This prompted JYP to suspend all activities in China for the time being. Tzuyu issued an apology and JYP founder Park Jin-Young did as well, claiming that politics was never the intention of waving the flags in the first place.
The apology cornered Huang An and exposed him as an instigator, prompting irreparable damage to his image across China and Taiwan. Conversely it affected the national elections that year,
with the young voters of Taiwan believing the apology to be under duress and therefore insincere; Contributing about 1.34 million votes to pro-independence candidate Tsai ing-wen, which aided in launching him over the top of his opponents and into the presidency.
Aside from becoming the unintended catalyst for an international incident, Tzuyu’s other most notable achievement is that of the second most beautiful face in the world,
according to TC Candler’s annual report on “The 100 most Beautiful Faces of 2018” and thusly she holds the highest personal regard for her face and chin. Her skin is just as distinctive, coining the nickname, “Chocolate” for its dark and rich complexion.
