About MBLAQ
MBLAQ is a South Korean boy band created by music producer Rain, under the label J. Tune Camp. They were initially announced on September 21, 2009, in Nylon Magazine as a new group after they trained for two years. A teaser for their debut song, “Oh Yeah,” was released on October 12 and on October 14, they appeared with Rain during his “Legend of Rainism” concert. The group then released their debut EP titled “Just BLAQ.”
The EP was an immediate hit and it topped several music charts. MBLAQ debuted in Japan in December. There was a documentary film produced about their Japanese appearance.
In 2010, the group released their second EP “Y,” which Rain produced, wrote, composed and choreographed. The EP debuted at number one on M! Countdown, and the group was named “Rookie Group” in 2010.
In late 2010, J. Tune Camp merged with JYP Entertainment. It was noted that MBLAQ does not have any ties to JYP Entertainment.
MBLAQ released six EP albums, two studio albums, three single albums, and several music videos. Most of the songs reached the top of the music charts. The group focused on their choreography with the help of Rain, and they became known for their dancing as much as their music. They were one of the more popular groups at the time.
They performed to sold-out crowds on their tours from 2011 to 2014. They won multiple awards for Best Newcomer, Best Korean Artist, and People’s Choice. There were seven appearances on reality programs.
Thunder left the group in 2014, and Joon left in 2017, to concentrate on their individual projects.
In 2015, MBLAQ released their final album Mirror.
