About Shinhwa

Shinhwa is a six-member Kpop boy band from South Korea. They are the longest-running boy band in their genre. Having been active for over 20 years, their discography is quite extensive. Shinhwa has also accumulated a long list of awards to go with their music catalog. The word “shinhwa” means legend or myth. It seems they live up to their name as the group has been referred to as legendary.

The group originally signed with SM Entertainment. When the contract expired in 2003, SM offers a new contract to all members except Dongwan. Instead, they went with Good Entertainment agency. However, SM Entertainment would not allow the group to use the name Shinhwa. After years of legal battles and lawsuits, they won the rights to Shinhwa and named their agency Shinhwa Company.

Shinhwa’s debut album Resolver was released in 2008, and it received a luke-warm reception. They were accused of lacking originality and replicating other groups’ music. The album did not do well on the charts and there was even talk of disbanding. However, they did not want to give up.

Their next few albums released in 1999 were better received. They went mainstream after that and have since released 15 studio albums, 3 live albums, several singles, and compilation albums.

Andy Bio

Andy is a South Korean rapper, singer, and actor. He is best known as a member of the Kpop boy band Shinhwa. He is also a solo artist. Andy was raised in Los Angeles, California. He moved to Seoul to finish high school.

Andy was originally going to join the boy band H.O.T., but his parents said he was too young and they would not support him. Once he got older, he was approached by SM Entertainment to join the group Shinhwa. His parents gave him their support this time.

Shinhwa debuted in 1998 with the album Resolver. It did not chart well and the group was not sure if they would continue. However, as they released more music in the next year, they became more mainstream and they are now the longest-running Kpop group. Andy stayed with the group as they toured and released more music.

In 2003 while the other members of Shinhwa were pursuing solo careers, Andy instead focused on his acting. He was in television series, variety shows, and films. He also played the lead role in the musical “Music In My Heart.”

Andy left the group’s management company in 2007, to set up his own company, ND Entertainment. He released his first digital single “Irrelevant,” which included collaborations with other singers.

He continued acting and also produced a two-member boy band called Jumper under his own label. They’ve since released two singles.

Andy enlisted for his military service on January 11, 2010, and he was discharged on October 31, 2011.

In 2012, Andy joined the rest of his bandmates and Shinhwa returned after being on hiatus for four years. They released their tenth studio album “The Return,” and launched their comeback tour.

In 2013, Andy was indicted for gambling illegally on soccer matches. He was given a fine, and he withdrew from his individual and group activities. He was edited out of filmed appearances and was banned from the MBC broadcasting network.

On October 20, 2014, Andy announced he would be returning to Shinhwa for a Chinese concert. It was broadcasted in Seoul on a different network. Soon after that, Shinhwa announced the release of another comeback album. MBC also lifted the ban and Andy was able to appear on MBC.
